The stimulating effects of coffee take just 10 minutes to kick in.

However, it takes around 30-45 minutes to reach the maximum level in the body.

Its effects usually last between 2-3 hours and sometimes 4-5 hours depending on an individual’s metabolism.

Surprisingly, men are more sensitive than women to the effects of coffee, the study also found.

Dr Ana Adan, the study’s first author, said:

“Although both the men and women saw an improvement in their activity levels with the coffee, which increased in later measurements, we observed a greater impact among the males.”

The study involved giving varying levels of caffeine to 668 young people and measuring its subsequent effects.
