Our happiness levels are influenced by three factors: our genes, our circumstances and what we choose to do every day. While there's nothing we can do about our genes and circumstances are hard to change, we can much more easily control our daily activities.

Recent psychological research has begun to show particular types of activities which can increase our happiness levels over the short and even long term. But it can be difficult to keep up these activities over a period of time.

That's where a new application recently released for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch comes in. The Live Happy application has been developed by psychology-based web and mobile application developers Signal Patterns in conjunction with Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky, a leading light in the field of positive psychology.

Live Happy draws on research in positive psychology examining the types of activities that are likely to improve psychological well-being. It includes activities such as:

  • Goal setting/evaluating/tracking
  • Expressing gratitude directly
  • Keeping a gratitude journal
  • Replaying happy days
  • Envisioning your best possible self
  • Remembering acts of kindness
  • "Ask Sonja" Q&A capability

The Live Happy app is available now at the Apple App Store for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Users can download a free version that supports a limited number of activities, and those who want to continue their Live Happy program can purchase it for $6.99. A proportion of each app sale is being donated to the Live Your Life Well campaign.
