		<description>I am not sure that this experiment is actually as authoritative as it appears to be.  Couldn&#039;t the fields of visual attention simply be switching back and forth without sweeping back and forth?  To use the car and child scenario, couldn&#039;t we shift back and forth between the child and the car without sweeping from one to another, thereby missing the manhole cover inbetween?  If attention &quot;jumps&quot; rather than &quot;sweeps,&quot; the flashing symbol would be missed entirely.</description>

		<description>Isn&#039;t our attention, to some extent, altered by our consciousness - our awareness - I know mine is.  I can look at a website and not see what I am looking for, even though it&#039;s right there in front of me (sometimes, not always), and I think it&#039;s either because I&#039;m looking too hard, or I&#039;m looking but not seeing, if you see what I mean.
