And of course, this is related to our emerging understanding of Autism; autistic individuals lack the "Theory of Mind" that helps them understand what others might be thinking. It has to do with the developmental pathway that helps us be empathic. "Mirror neurons" are likely implicated in the development of this skill, which is a fascinating recent area of understanding in relation to the development of empathy and autism.

I agree that theory of mind is one of the more fascinating concepts in developmental psychology. This experiment is one of many that draw my respect every time I hear about them, the cleverness of the design to find out what they are thinking. Absolutely fascinating.

I am always astounded at how the most basic of human capabilities that we take for granted everyday are extraordinarily complex. Thanks for spotlighting this very cool research.

I find the area of theory of mind one of the most interesting in development psychology. There has been some research about this done in my university (Universitat Jaume I, Spain) so I have read quite a little about it. It's interesting how the development of theory of mind is closely related to language. In one of the studies they did in my university, it was found a correlation between theory of mind and mentalist terms used by mothers in conversations with children.

Greetings! ^^
