This sounds like one of the affection/ liking experiment. The findings were similar; the more you see them, the more you like them. Liking is all about familiarity, proximity and similarity.

Very true.
I think the initial friendship starts this way, however...it is simply more convenient to continue being friends with those people even interests grow apart. I'll definitely be more careful the next time something like this happens!

Another confirming experience from me. My oldest friend is a guy I happened to sit next to on our first day at high school. That was more than 27 years ago, and we're still in touch.

I can certainly relate to this! I made only a handful of friends in life, but most of those I make were present on the first day of experiencing something new for me (first day of college, first gaming experience, first etc...).

It's just what happened to me! On my first day in university, I met who now is on of my best friends. It was more than a year ago and I remember how lost and disoriented we were. Moreover, my best friends in college are the ones who sat near to me at the very beginning... We keep sitting near by now XD

This idea sounds familiar! In 1979 I moved from Edinburgh into student halls in Huddersfield. The only person with whom I am in regular contact from that era is the guy from the next room in the halls - the first new person I met there.

My oldest friend is a guy I met in 1965 in P1 - however, I can't really remember much about that.
