The only difference between mail and email is "e" and people usually take great care over their traditionally written correspondence - some even get quite nervous and would never dream of peppering a letter with abbreviations and emoticons.<br /><br />Btw, this is an excellent blog :-) I agree with your advice about taking time to compose an email properly.
