Isn't it fun to have a blog where you can review books you like instead of just books that are new, but often less interesting or important? I read this book on vacation last year and reviewed it myself while on the road in Mexico.

I find Oliver Sacks insufferably pompous as a writer, but he's a top shelf intellectual with the goods to back it up, and a brilliant wordsmith to boot, nearly living up to his own lofty opinions of his own work.

Sacks is an important figure in modern medical history even apart from his writings, which taken together frankly put him nearly in a league by himself among public intellectuals with a medical specialty in the current generation. I'd enjoy his work just a tad more if he weren't so overtly aware of that fact. :) best,
