You suggested the solution: use that 25 million to make a really scary advertisement, run it across the world, and ask other millionaires or billionaires out there to do the same. Pretty soon, when enough of this goes around, people will be scared as hell. Hopefully, by that time, greener technologies will be more available and cheaper than ever before. Damn, if things like these start, I'll start investing on green technonlogy stocks now and make myself a millionaire as well.

Thanks G.V., yes the US are probably not the most socially advanced country in terms of welfare - you'd probably have to go to a Scandinavian country for that.

I'd certainly go along with what you're saying about technology. While technology is important, we tend to see every problem through it's prism. It isn't always the solution.

It's difficult to disagree, I believe.
But just to two consideration about technology that so frequently is described as 'the solution'.
First, USA are the most advanced country in the world technology-wise, but it's questionable that is the first about other issues (welfare, eg.).
Secondly, what is surprising is that technology is always considered the solution of the environmental crisis. But it is our dependency from technology that is biggest obstable to change the environmental impact of our everyday life.
It's the relationship between master and slave, when the master truly dominates the slave it also true that is entirely dependent from the slave too.
Can we give up our technological slaves?

PS. Great blog, one of my favourite readings in the blogosphere. (I am just PhD student in Social Psychology at LSE).
