40,000 Ecstacy Pills Over Nine Years

"Doctors from London University have revealed details of what they believe is the largest amount of ecstasy ever consumed by a single person. Consultants from the addiction centre at St George's Medical School, London, have published a case report of a British man estimated to have taken around 40,000 pills of MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy, over nine years. The heaviest previous lifetime intake on record is 2,000 pills."

Wow. I'm nearly speechless.

Ecstacy, like any substance, is dangerous when abused, especially seen hear.

Interestingly enough was no mention of the supposed "holes" in the brain due to ecstacy use (a long standing lie on the part of biased researchers).

And frankly this seems to at the least be a testimony to the relative saftey of a drug that is often portrayed as a "killer" and incredibly dangerous.

Unfortunately what we have here is a drug that is horribly underresearched with far reaching potential inside and outside of the medical realm.

Due the tabboo nature of drugs, especially "club drugs", Ecstacy (and many other "illegal" drugs) may never get the respect and research deserving of such an fascinating (and potentially helpful) chemical due to the closeminded (and fearful) people and goverment.

I have been using (x-pills) for about a year now and they are really addictive. I have tried just about everything in my power to keep my mind from wondering back but it alway seem to happen. I have two kids and i see myself not giving them my all because of the lack of attention i seem to have.I started using drugs as a way of getting loose for the clubs and now i regret it.

Ive been a long time user of ecstacy. I dont use it anymore. I dont care what anyone says. Im emotionally depressed, as in i dont feel strongly ever about anything... i cant be sad or happy... everytime the come down is worse and i get suicidal... the "supposed holes" comment is a general fact among chonic x users... i get intensive head aches, they took a cat scan of my brain and said it look like that of a brain twenty years older than my own... its bad shit.

I've used X probably about 30-40 times over the past 6 years, and for the most part, always enjoyed myself.
Have had a few bad trips, but most were good.
I don't ever feel depressed, and live a normal, healthy life with my wife, and little girl.
Ecstacy is awesome :) .
May not be for everyone, though.
But it gets a bad rap.
Just like weed.

It definitely affects your memory, but lay off it for a bit and most of the other things come back pretty much in tact. If you want something that will do a certain amount to counteract the negative effects of it, 1 or 2 drops of l-deprenyl 1 hour before MAY help. More and you run the risk of serotonin syndrome.
As with all things, use in moderation and with caution.

I think that X is given an unnecersary negative report through the media and other agents of social control. I have used the drug over the past four years and find it extremely enjoyable. However it is often uncertian what the pills contain, the pure form is excellent, however it is not so good when mixed with ketamine or heroine. That being my only concern when taking it. I too have a family and lead a 'normal'life. It does enable you to let your hair down and have a good time. I believe it is however all down to the individuals personality as to whether or not you are suceptable to psychological side effects from the drug, as I have had no problems and no my limits. I am a proffessional person and it has in no way effected my ability to conduct myself in my proffessional role. Far more research needs to be conducted to gain a fuller less bias understanding of such drugs :)

I am a moderate ecstacy user, only taking once or twice a month, Depression is always a problem after using the drug, usually lasting between 24-72 hours. However i found that this can be easily resolved by keeping yourself active and doing something you enjoy, eating fish and drinking milk and other high protein products over the days after using ecstacy help rebuild your bodys immune system and general well-being that ecstacy takes away. Short term memory loss is definatley a problem, however its benefits appear to make such things as work go a lot quicker (Due to the absent feeling of time), its downsides are forgetting things told to you only moments before and that days seem to just waste away and are often forgotten, i often have to write lists or now use a calculater for simple sums the following days after using ectacy. I found that after laying off the drug for a month (Considering i only use the drug lightly) removes such problems as short term memory loss. I agree more reseach needs to be done into this drug, and others.

Thanks to the anonymouses and Nick for your comments. Really interesting to read your different experiences with Ecstacy. I think I will do a few more posts on it in the future...

I think the biggest problem we have with Americas "war on drugs" is the war itself. We funnel millions of tax dollars into something that hasnt done anything to stop or prevent people from using explicit substances. Thanks to the media, we have sucsessfully turned ecstacy into a social pariah. Due to the fact that the substance is illegal, we have no idea if the reports of people doing the drug and its negative impacts are even actually caused by pure MDMA. One of the biggest problems with making these substances illegal is that they are still manufactured and sold. People are still going to take MDMA, it's just not regulated by the government. This means that all those negative side effects people claim they are having from the drug might not be that particular drug at all. There is absolutly no way of knowing (short of testing the pills first) what you are getting. Therefore, the 40,000 pill guy may have issues from literally, well who knows what. I dont know about you all but I would personally like to live in a society that instead of criminally punishing those who support the use of scheduled drugs, taxed them and used the money to research the drugs so the american public knows exactly what they are getting themselves into if and when they decide to partake in using the substance.

Anon, thanks for your comment. I think there's a lot of sense in what you say.

Es are great, as is MDMA powder. Pretty much everyone at "proper" clubs in the UK take Es.

The best things is they are really cheap now, cheaper than a pint, in fact! :-)

Which is just as well, as booze has caused me far more problems than Es ever will.

I took ecstasy for the first time in 1998 and it blew my mind. After some amazing experiences it really helped me (who was a very shy/withdrawn person) open up and have more confidence to be myself.

It's bad that there is so much crap out there that you don't know what you're taking.

You can have a good experience on MDMA where the general feeling of acceptance, well being and harmony with the world around you lasts for days and you don't really get the come down. Though I have to admit there have been many times where I've felt really sad about 2 days after and have not been able to place a reason for it other that the chemical balance in my brain has been disrupted, this generally only lasts a day or so. After taking E I'm not really back to my normal self until about a month after, during this time I'm in a more dreamy state of mind. I once went through a period of insomnia and I remember it ending after taking ecstasy.

Ecstasy isn't physically addictive, the addiction is a mental one. Who doesn't wish that they could permanently remove all their inhibitions and achieve everything they ever dreamt of, once you've experienced that kind of freedom it makes you want more, it's just a shame drug taking seems to be the easiest way to get there.

One main problem with ecstasy is that the happiness it brings is an unnatural one and it's very easy to fall into a rut where you just accept that things in your life aren't that great because at any point you can escape from it all, you get static and content when you could be doing so much more. I guess people can get more depressed on the come down when reality comes knocking on their door.

Obviously this guy who took 25 pills a day was foolish, he must have had a good supply though!
